Cyber-Bullying; Virus?

As everyone knows, bullying is a world wide pandemic that spreads just as fast and easily as the plague. We all know that bullying comes in different forms, shapes and sizes.  In this video, it talks about how cyber-bullying is spreading through out our society and can affect anyone.  Bullying feels no emotion, no remorse and doesn't care who you are.  As mentioned in the video, it's contagious.  "It has infiltrated schools, through social media."  It also talks about who are most likely to become bullies, and it is basically those who have, or are outside the social norms.  This video hits home pretty hard, because everyone notices what is going on in the world, yet there is no way to stop cyber-bullying.  There are ways to try and deter people from bullying, but still, will there ever be a time where bullying does not exist.  Bullying, historically, has crept up from being a statistical rarity, to being seen every day on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.  Cyber bullying, is a social construction.  It has been born and bread since the introduction of the internet, and now has become a world wide fad.  It is because of our society that so many individuals are being bullied.  There has to be ways to prevent it or to slow down it's growth.  This video shows how victims of bullying are falling into the category of exclusion.  Since they are being bullied, they don't want to go to school, they don't want to hang out with friends which leas to a decrease in social integration, because they end up being bullied! This social exclusion leads to egoistic suicide as stated by Emile Durkheim.  BULLYING MUST STOP! Support PINK shirt day and stop bullying! 42% of kids are being and have been subjected to Cyber-bullying and one in four have been bullied more than once!

Years of Bullying led to Teen Suicide

A 15 year old Saskatchewan teen kills himself after years of constant bullying. Bullying has become an increasingly bigger problem in society and has become one of the leading causes of teen suicide. The initial reason why an individual is singled out by others is because they are seen as being outside of the social norm. Many would say that cases like these can be prevented, however it is not as easy as it sounds. Often times the victims refuse to report the problem to a higher ranking authority figure such as parents, teachers, or police officers as they believe it will make matters worse. This allows the bullies to continue their harassment for a prolonged period of time, which in the end takes it toll on the victim forcing them to make poor decisions such as taking their own life. Due to the advancement in technology, individuals are able to harass others electronically, this is known as 'cyberbullying'. Many parents are taking action by seeking out laws to put a stop to bullying and its many different forms, particularly those affected by it such as this teens mother. Anti-bullying laws have already been passed in other provinces, yet many believe that it won't be enough until these laws are put into effect all over Canada. Will these laws be able to stop bullying once and for all, or will bullies find other ways to continue their neverending harassment spree?

Bullying in School

This article talks about children that are constantly bullied at school, especially high school, where the amount of children bullied is sky-rocketing. What are the teachers doing about it ? Well, they are doing their best at trying to provide psychological help, but truly, it is a matter that she be looked at from a societal point of view. At this very moment in history, schools are trying more than ever to create some sort of "programs" in order to help kids that are being bullied, but really, how much does it take until it works ? In our opinion, it does take a lot. Kids do not understand how much damage they cause, as it is simply seen as a "game" most of the time, which is the root of the problem. Bullying is no game and, sadly, bullied people become bullies, which could be referred to as the law of the "bully-bullied". The consequences of bullying have to do with possible academical, physical and psychological problems that will most likely follow them all their lives. Unfortunately, this is not something that could be considered statistically rare, as more and more it is shown that kids are automatically bullied when they are in a somewhat precarious situation.

Childhood Bullying May Lead To Problems In Adulthood

This article discusses how being bullied throughout childhood may lead to problems later on in life, such as social, financial, and health issues. The majority of the time the reason an individual was bullied was because they were out of the social norm or were being deviant in some manner. However, this article states that this sort of deviance will carry on into adulthood, making the individual more likely to participate in overt acts of deviance (ex: smoking), thus causing a sort-of harm (social, emotional, or physical).

5-Year Old Bullied

This article talks about a 5 year old boy, who was bullied on his school bus going to and from school, each day by kids older than him.  The bus ride was 40 km from his house to the school, so you could imagine how miserable this kid’s life was for the whole ride.  This kid, Ryan, to begin with was already part of a group of kids that are statistically rare.  He has a prosthetic leg from a lawn mower accident two years earlier.  Ryan, was being subjected to physical harm, by being punched in the face by one of the bigger students on the bus, and also emotional harm, because he has had to live with people always making fun of him for his prosthetic limb, and then from repeatedly been called names day in and out.  Ryan is “permanently” breaking a social norm, by having a prosthetic limbs even though, it isn't his intention thus making him deviant and it is the social reaction which is causing him most harm.  Society mostly reacts hostile towards people who are disabled, in the same way that African Americans and Jewish people used get picked on by white people.
